Safe Sanctuaries Policy

The purpose for establishing a Safe Sanctuaries Policy is to provide an unwavering commitment to the physical safety and spiritual growth for children and youth of the Church. LOTC opposes any form of child abuse, and it is the policy of this church to proactively engage in efforts to protect the children and youth during the course of church activities.

All forms of child abuse are a violation of California law and a violation of fundamentals of Christian faith.  It is the purpose of this policy to ensure any report of suspected child abuse, regardless of its nature or severity be immediately reported to the proper authorities and investigated by the Church in accordance and as required by law.

As a measure to reduce the legal liability of the Church if an incident of child abuse occurs, LOTC has implemented a comprehensive recruiting, screening and hiring strategy, which includes reasonable actions to protect the children of the Church. These actions include the developing procedures for hiring Church Employees and appointing volunteers who work with the children and youth.

It is the policy of LOTC to encourage and expect all those Employees, Volunteers, and Helpers charged with the care, instruction or oversight of the children of the Church, in either the classroom environment or during external Church activities to aggressively observe and report any and all suspected forms of child abuse to the proper authority, Senior Pastor and the Staff Pastor Parish Relations committee.
