Ministries
Light of the Canyon’s ministry teams are focused on reaching out to others to bring them to a closer relationship with God and serving our church family to encourage a connection with fellow congregants. We have ministries that serve families, children and young adults including fellowship events, small group studies, and outreach to our local community and beyond.
Angel Ministry
The Angel Ministry cares for our church family by providing visits to people who are in the hospital, recovering at home or are alone at home, as is the case for a number of our elderly congregants.
Care Ministry
Care Ministries is dedicated to being the face of Light of the Canyon to visitors. Team members greet people as they arrive on Sunday mornings and keep in touch with newcomers to help them get acquainted with life at Light of the Canyon.
Children’s Ministry
The Children’s Ministry focuses on Sunday School, Vacation Bible Camp and other programs that bring children closer to God while learning about their faith heritage. There is a special time during ever Sunday worship service when Pastor Jon provides a message to the children. After this time, children are escorted to Sunday School. Nursery care for young children is available during worship time. Our nursery has been named William’s Barnyard in honor of 19-month-old William Simonian, who passed away in January 2007. Light of the Canyon sponsors a week-long Vacation Bible Camp every year for children ages 3 through 5th grade. In 2007, we introduced the children to the heroes of the Bible – Daniel, David, Esther and the greatest hero, Jesus Christ – through the “Heroes Unmasked” Vacation Bible Camp. For more information about next year’s camp, contact Minnie August, 714-525-5964, minnie@lotc.org.
Youth Ministry
Our youth group has a variety of activities that they participate in. All young people from grades 6-12 are invited to participate. Jr. and Sr. youth groups meet together during the Sunday School hour for fellowship and learning. They also meet several times a month for fun and fellowship (Laser Tag, Ice Blocking, etc.). During the school year, they have their Wednesday Night Bible Study. This study is always interesting and deals with issues most relevant to young people.
Family Ministry
Family Ministry supports every person in the church as part of our church family. The Family Ministry Team sponsors various events throughout the year that allow fellowship time to connect with others in our church family. Some events include an annual Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Festival, Luau in the Park, Parents Night Out, Movie Nights and potlucks.
Small Groups
Small groups are vital to the ministry of Light of the Canyon as they provide support, fellowship and discussion for members. Each small group is unique and may meet at the church or in someone’s home. There is always something interesting going on that will e meaningful to just about everyone. Throughout the year there are several guided studies that each small group is encouraged to participate in. Light of the Canyon United Methodist Women meet the fourth Monday of each month for fun and fellowship. Meetings are held at church members’ homes and occasionally at local restaurants. They sponsor several fundraising events throughout the year, including the annual Chili Cookoff and a booth at the Anaheim Hills July 4th Celebration. Light of the Canyon UMW has created a “liaison” with the Eli Home to provide gifts and necessities specifically to the moms on a monthly basis. These women leave dangerous and unhealthy relationships and come to the Eli Home with nothing but their children. They need the very basic everything items, as well as some special “feel good” gifts to help them start over. Many benefactors donate gifts and money for the children, but the mothers often go without. As a women’s organization, UMW ensures they too know that they are loved and that God has not forgotten them. Contact the church office at (714) 283-4633 to find out about current small group offerings.
