Meet Pastor Jon
Known previously as an insurance investigator, landscaper, youth minister, and pastor at Community United Methodist Church in Huntington Beach, Jon Wesley Waterson became pastor of Light of the Canyon United Methodist Church on July 1, 2005. His unique background is a perfect fit for the diverse and colorful congregation at Light of the Canyon.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Pastor Jon moved to Southern California at the age of eight and has lived in Orange County ever since. He is the son of a United Methodist minister, has been a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, and has a great love for its traditions. He received his bachelor’s degree from Westmont College and a Masters of Divinity from the School of Theology at Claremont. Pastor Jon’s educational background 
gives him a unique theological perspective on the world that fits in well with the diversity of Light of the Canyon (for more info, please see Pastor Jon’s blog). Pastor Jon’s areas of ministry include youth, outreach, missions, recovery issues, social justice and working in the field of contemporary worship.
Pastor Jon enjoys reading, surfing, playing tennis and softball, watching movies and spending as much time as possible with his family. His wife, Cindy, is an attorney with her own practice, specializing in advocacy for people with developmental disabilities. Their son, Corran, born in 2002, is named after a lighthouse in the Scottish Highlands that Jon and Cindy visited on their honeymoon.
